November 8, 2019ICE at Opryland Hotel. If you’ve lived in Nashville you’ve probably heard of ICE at Opryland Hotel. But have you ever been? If you haven’t, it’s by far the coolest, no pun intended, absolute most highly recommended place you must visit for your Nashville Christmas holiday thing to do.
ICE at Opryland is held each year in Nashville mid-November till January. Once inside the event, you’ll literally be in a 40,000 square feet Nashville winter wonderland. The exhibit, which has a different Christmas theme each year, is made completely of 1.5 million pounds of ice blocks.
The entire experience all happens in a chill 9 degrees below, complete with a giant ice slide, dramatic lighting, sound, and special effects! The entire exhibit is completely walkable, family-friendly and you even get special thick coats to keep you warm and toasty during your visit.
The Story of ICE!
The ICE! exhibit is the creation of 35 dedicated artisans from Harbin, China who spend nearly an entire month in Nashville creating this one-of-a-kind attraction. In order to supply the raw materials to the craftsmen, a local factory churns out 36 truckloads of ice over a three-week span.
To build the ICE! attraction requires three different types of ice. Clear “Crystal” Ice is the most complex, requiring 45 gallons of water to be frozen over a period of three days for a single 400-pound ice block. White ice has a cloudy, flaky appearance, much like snow, and is created by quickly freezing the water to prevent the molecules from aligning. Lastly, colored ice is used to provide artistic highlights to the ice sculptures and comes in nine different colors via the addition of food coloring.
If you are looking for the ultimate Nashville Christmas family event, this would be our recommendation! Tickets are $12 for children and $29 for adults. No reservation is needed but you will need to get there early to avoid long lines.
